Step onto the streets and spend your day admiring the effort put in by the artists of New York in creating the giant pieces of art. Maybe stop at a cafe nestled in the nooks of the streets to have a meal while you are at it as well! Whether an expression of creativity or a social stance against contentious issues, the streets of Brooklyn have them all.  In this feature, we will be showcasing some of the best displays of street art that Brooklyn, New York has to offer.

The four-wall stretch along BQE, the DUMBO walls, are incredibly fascinating displays of work. Started in 2012, the DUMBO walls feature 8 separate murals done by various types of artists! Each piece is vastly different from each other and highlights the artist’s speciality.

Curated by Joseph J. Sitt and Jeffrey Deitch, the Coney Art Walls are part of an outdoor museum. Walls erupt in the most vibrant of displays- an organised chaos of colours and pictures line the streets against the backdrop of a neck-craning rollercoaster. At night dim lamps illuminate the works, bringing out an orange-hued softness.

These are just some of the many places in Brooklyn to view street art at! Furthermore, the different areas in New York (Bronx, Manhattan or Queens) are also filled with street art. While some view it as pure vandalism, others look at it as a beautiful expression of art. Artists are given the freedom to take over the streets and paint an otherwise concrete landscape in a cacophony of colours. Pin this on your to-do list when in New York and we promise that it will be worth your entire day!
