Report: Moscow Most Congested City in the World

According to a new traffic report, Moscow is the most congested city in the world.

The 2018 Global Traffic Scorecard, generated by analytics firm INRIX, ranked more than 200 cities in 38 countries based on traffic bottlenecks and ease of road manoeuvrability.

The top ten most congested cities are listed below.

  1. Moscow
  2. Istanbul
  3. Bogota
  4. Mexico City
  5. Sao Paulo
  6. London
  7. Rio de Janeiro
  8. Boston
  9. Saint Petersburg
  10. Rome

The report framed traffic congestion as an issue of supply and demand, with the demand for road usage exceeding that of the supply.

Elements taken into account included hours lost due to jams, time taken to travel one mile in a central business district during peak hours and the anticipated speed, and variation over the years. Public transport, population, and network density were also factored in.
